This is a part-time position with an FTE of 0.45. The successful candidate will be required to work each Monday and Friday, and then additional hours on either Tuesday or Thursday. The role attracts 5 weeks annual leave, and is required to work in some of the school holidays. The School Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting the Laboratory Manager in preparing equipment, chemicals and resources etc. as requested by science staff for science practical work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting the Laboratory Manager in:Preparing equipment as requested through the Risk Assess booking systemPreparing chemicals accuratelyLiaising with teaching staff regarding preparation and safety requirements and legislationEnsuring that science equipment is correctly stored and maintainedEnsuring the safety of the science environmentCommunicating with staff for efficient time management of equipment and resourcesEnsuring that all practical equipment and chemicals are ordered through the Risk Assess ordering system Experience and SkillsMust be able to demonstrate:Excellent communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skillsAn ability to work co-operatively with the Laboratory Manager, Learning Area Leader and Science StaffAn ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary professional teamAn understanding of and experience in working with young people from various cultural backgroundsAn ability to develop positive working relationships with other staff and with students; customer service skills i.e. friendly and helpful personalityGood IT skills e.g. Computer literate in Word, Excel and Risk AssessAn solid understanding of Chemistry will be advantageous.
